The traditional Italian association can hope for the first cup victory since 1974.
The traditional Italian club FC Bologna is in the final of the Coppa Italia for the first time in 51 years. In the semifinals against Serie-A competitor FC Empoli, the team from Karlsruhe, born coach Vincenzo Italiano, made it all clear with a 2-1 (1: 1) win.
“I Rossoblu” (the red-blue) had already laid the foundation for the final with a 3-0 in the first leg. Bologna is now allowed to dream of the third triumph in the Italian trophy, at the last final participation in 1974 the club won the title for the second time in the club’s history.
Fabbian puts Bologna in the lead
Midfielder Giovanni Fabbian had initially put Bologna in the lead in his own stadium (7th). Empolis Wiktor Kowalenko replied after 33 minutes with the equalization. However, Thijs Dallinga scored the winning goal (87th) for Bologna shortly before the final whistle.
In the final on May 14th in Rome, Italiano’s team will now meet AC Milan. Among other things, thanks to a double pack of ex-Frankfurt Luka Jovic, she had eliminated Inter Milan (3-0) in the derby on Wednesday. The first leg had run out 1-1.
