After DSV withdrawal: Ex-national coach apparently with a new job

After the biathlon World Cup in February, the former German biathlon national coach Uros Velepec surprisingly explained his resignation. But now the 57-year-old is apparently about to take on a new job.

The former German national biathlon coach Uros Velepec could apparently start a new job soon. As the Polish sports journalist Sebastian Krystek reports, the 57-year-old head coach of the Polish national team is to become.

Rafal Lepel, the previous coach of the team, would have to vacate his position. An official confirmation of the Polish biathlon association is still pending. Rumors that Lepel has not received a new contract and had to leave the team has been circulating since March.

Polish association announces changes

A spokesman for the association only said Polish media that there would be changes in the coaching staff. Whether Velepec, who already looked after the Slovenian gentlemen and the Ukrainian women in his career and switched to the German Ski Association in 2022, is unclear.

Velepec was only an assistant coach at the DSV and after the resignation of Mark Kirchner in 2023 took over the main responsibility for the German men’s team – initially with success, but in the past season with many drops of bitterness. Especially at the shooting range, the German gentlemen were rarely able to call up their performance and lost the connection to the top of the world.

The result: Between Velepec and the sporting director Felix Bitterling, there were different opinions about how Velepec should do his job. So there was a sudden separation after the World Cup in February. The DSV Tobias Reiter presented as the successor.
