Paulo Fonseca is missing his club beyond the end of this season. This was decided by the disciplinary commission of the French football league.
Because of his violent clinch with a referee, coach Paulo Fonseca was closed for months just a few weeks after taking office at Olympique Lyon.
The Portuguese is not allowed to be on the sidelines by November 30th, the disciplinary commission of the French Football League (LFP) decided on Wednesday. The 52-year-old lacks the club beyond the end of this season. By September 15, he has also been banned from accessing the changing room of his team on match days.
Fonseca had done a heavy freak out in the game against Stade Brest last Sunday and screamed at the near proxy referee Benoit Millot after a red card.
“Such an aggressive attitude is hardly imaginable”
Fonseca wanted to “intimidate him physically”, the referee later told the L’Equipe that he also hinted at a blow, “a headbreak. Such an aggressive attitude is hardly imaginable with a professional trainer. ” The coach apologized after the game, “I shouldn’t have done that, that’s true,” he said.
Lyon had shot against Brest, but in added time Millot, together with the Var, checked a possible penalty for the opponent. This process alone caused Fonseca’s resentment, there was no penalty.
The coach, previously at AC Milan, had taken over the ambitious club at the end of January and since then won three of the five games with the team. As at that time, however, Ol is just sixth of the Ligue 1.
