As early as 2023, medical reasons forced the former Schalke striker to withdraw from his tasks at Ajax.
The Dutch Football Club Ajax Amsterdam prematurely dissolved the contract of its technical director Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, which was originally running by summer 2026. As the record champion of the Eredivisie announced on Friday on his website, the decision was made in agreement with the ex-professional.
“Klaas-Jan is a real ‘Ajacied’. It would be great if he could return to our club one day. But his health is going on,” said sports director Alex Kroes: “We thank him for the work he did here and wish him strength and success for his further recovery.”

Huntelaar once shone at Schalke
Huntelaar, who had played for the capital association from 2006 to 2008 and again from 2017 to 2021, initially took over a consultant’s task in Ajax management after his end of his career in 2022. Later, the former Dutch international as a technical director was responsible for the renowned youth work of the traditional association.
During his active career, Huntelaar played for the top European clubs AC Milan and Real Madrid. In the Bundesliga, the center forward from 2011 to 2017 and in the second half of 2021 for today’s second division team Schalke 04 was hunted.
