FC Barcelona desperately desperately causes comparisons with a Bayern star with a number of parades.
Dani Olmo could only smile in disbelief. With a slightly stunned face, he threw the ball towards the corner flag. Just a second earlier, he had looked like a safe scorer.
After a brilliant external pass from teammate Lamine Yamal, Olmo had fired the ball from a full run on the goal. A move in form – wiped away from the hero of the evening. We are talking about Leo Román.
Leo Román convinces against Barca with numerous glossy parades
The goalkeeper from RCD Mallorca held everything there was on the narrow 0-1 defeat against FC Barcelona. His spectacular reflex against the later goal scorer Olmo in the 27th minute was the most impressive rescue act.
A brutal appearance in the Barca Stadium
Román showed a total of 12 parades – even though he has not been between the posts as a replacement goalkeeper for months. Most recently, he was allowed to go in the trophy on January 3. His last league game was a 1: 5 from December. Back then it went against Barcelona.
“The Spanish Manuel Neuer”, called DAZN commentator David Ploch during the game that could have ended in one clap again. In fact, Román reminded a little of the Superstar game from FC Bayern: the keeper convinced with presence, enormous span and lightning -like reflexes.
The next morning the Spanish media paid homage to the 24-year-old: “The octopus”, the Marca wrote: “Without him, the leadership of Barcelona would have been scandalous. A brutal appearance in Montjuic. He made the evening hell to all strikers who repeatedly failed.”
After the game, the points belonged to the title favorite, the recognition belonged to Román. Mallorca’s number two was in a “stage of grace”, the AS sealed. Diario de Mallorca titled him as “the nightmare Barcas”. The Mundo Deportivo marveled at the “Balearic Wall”.
The hidden goalkeeper works in the shade
Only one of a total of 40 (!) Completion had to let Román pass – and that against the offensive power Barca (89 goals in 33 games). Once hot, after the sporting exclamation mark, he also verbally added. Because he doesn’t see himself as a substitute.
“I don’t get enough opportunities,” complained the professional, who, according to Marca, is not a man of quiet tones: “Today you could see that my situation is not the one it should be.”
This has nothing to do with his goalkeeper competitor Dominik Greif, whom he expressly praised. No, the “management of the club” is to blame. “I worked in the shade, as the saying goes,” said Román at Movistar Plus.
It is not a problem between him and the three -year griffin, it is a problem for the association. Román has been considered the future of RCD Mallorca for a long time, but coach Jagoba Arrasate preferred to rely on his also talented teammates. “Leo Román, the hidden goalkeeper,” wrote the Mundo Deportivo.
And there are rumors
After the heroic deeds in the Barca Stadium, Arrasate is now spoiled for choice more than ever. At the same time, Román also lurks an expected danger. As you know, if you draw attention to yourself against large teams, you often quickly land on your wish list.
So the Mundo Deportivo did not quite might mention that Barca was looking for a young, big goalkeeper. And that Román, 1.89 meters tall, is available in the summer of 2026. And on top of that dissatisfied with his current situation.
Román would be 25 years old in a change at the end of the coming season. Even if it were a very far away: maybe the Spanish Manuel Neuer actually stepped out of the shade against Barca.
