Bayern women start at World Sevens Football tournament

The German champion is one of eight participants in Portugal.

Bayern Munich footballers will start at the new tournament format “World Sevens Football”. As the German champion announced on Thursday, the association is part of the competition, which will be held in 7-against-7 short game format from May 21 to 23 in Portugal and is endowed with a total of five million dollars.

A total of eight teams, divided into two groups of four, take part. In addition to Bavaria, Ajax Amsterdam, Benfica Lisbon and Manchester United have so far been confirmed. The streaming service DAZN transmits all games live and free of charge from the Estádio António Coimbra da Mota.

During the first phase (May 21st and 22nd), each team competes against all teams from the respective group, each 30 minutes (2 x 15). The two best teams of each group qualify for the semi -finals, as well as the game for third place and the final on May 23, and thus one day before the final of the Champions League (May 24).

“World Sevens Football is about creating opportunities for footballers who reflect their great value and great talent. We are very happy to welcome great teams in Estoril and to sound a new era in women’s football,” said Adrian Jacob, Head of Football from “W7F”.

According to the organizer, a second edition of the tournament will be sought this year, then possibly outside of Europe.
