Basketball Bundesliga club BG Göttingen has already been relegated as a relegation on the 28th matchday. In the Lower Saxony derby, the Göttinger lost 77: 101 (45:49) at the Löwen Braunschweig and thus sealed their walk into the second-class Pro-A league. For the violets that were still in the play-offs in 2023, it is the second descent after 2012.
“It was clear that this time would come, but it hurts,” said Veilchen captain Mathis Mönninghoff in tears at Dyn: “We fought, but it wasn’t enough.”
The team of coach Mikko Riipinen fought back into the game after a weak first quarter. After 14 points behind in the first quarter, the BBL was only four points in the back at half time. In the second half, however, the Göttinger did not build on the good performance.
The best thrower of the encounter was Braunschweig’s Sananda Fru with 18 points. At Göttingen, which collected the 18th defeat in series, Deion Hammond was the most successful scorer with 17 points.
Meanwhile, the Frankfurt Skyliners, placed in the table as 16th in front of Göttingen, won against the Telekom Baskets Bonn with 76:70 (45:30). This would not prevent a second win of the season from the BG’s early relegation.
