BBL: Würzburg stops negative series

Game highlights for ROSTOCK SEAWOLVES - Fitness First Würzburg Baskets

The Baskets and the Academics were briefly on course for a negative record, then Würzburg pulled ahead.

The Fitness First Würzburg Baskets have stopped their downturn in the Basketball Bundesliga (BBL). Coach Sasa Filipovski’s team won a low-scoring game against the relegation-threatened MLP Academics Heidelberg with a score of 70:54 (25:23), ending a streak of four consecutive defeats.

In the first half, little went right for last season’s semi-finalists, especially in the second quarter, which Würzburg won 11:6. Briefly, the teams were even heading for a negative record, which the then Brose Baskets and RheinEnergie Köln had set in 2007 with a total score of only 83 points (50:33).

BBL: Heidelberg remains second to last

Only after the break did the game pick up pace, and Würzburg pulled away in the final quarter. Würzburg’s Johnathan Stove (19) was the top scorer of the match.

Due to the negative streak, Würzburg had slipped from second to seventh place, but now they have at least temporarily moved back up to fourth place (12:8 wins).

Heidelberg, which had won three of its previous four games but most recently suffered a 63:106 thrashing against double-winner Bayern Munich, remains second to last with a record of 5:15 wins.
