Success coach Siegfried Mazet explains why he leaves the Norwegian association. The name Bö plays a role.
The Norwegian biathlon team has to look for a new shooting trainer from the 2026/27 season. Siegfried Mazet announced his resignation on Friday. In an interview, he justified his decision.
“I suspected that Tarjei and Johannes would end their careers at the end of the season (2025/26) and asked myself whether I would start in Norway for four years. When Johannes announced his early resignation, I thought more about my future,” Mazet told Nordic Magazine .
Norway’s shooting trainer Siegfried Mazet spoke about his resignation
Mazet: “Could lead to bad work”
The Frenchman said: “I spent ten years in Norway what I would never have thought when I arrived. In sports it is like this: either you go or it is shown to you. There is never a happy ending if you don’t go out of my own drive. I did not want to go back to the Olympics with the risk that my motivation could let go. That could lead to bad work and I did not want to achieve this point.”
According to Mazet, the resignation of the Bö-Brüder was just the right time to pack the suitcases because it is a new beginning in the team.
Mazet “had a rather unique way to work with them in the team. They were the leaders and the driving forces. Today a new generation arrives and I have to establish a connection to these biathletes”. That cost him “a lot of energy. That’s why I want to start a new project. This is my motivation, very selfish”.
However, Mazet didn’t want to reveal anything about his new project. “At the moment I don’t want to talk about it. I want to respect the ones I am working with. As far as the conversations are concerned, we will see,” he said.
