The German men performed significantly better in the individual race than the women. The victory goes to a Norwegian.
Philipp Horn achieved the hoped-for top-ten placement at the World Cup in Östersund in the first individual race of the Olympic winter. The biathlete of the German Ski Association (DSV) missed the podium, but with eighth place and a strong running performance, the 31-year-old was quite convincing.
The victory over 20 km went to Johan-Olav Botn from Norway. The 26-year-old triumphed at his first World Cup victory with a flawless shooting performance ahead of his teammate Martin Uldal (0/+57.7 seconds) and Sebastian Samuelsson from Sweden (1/+1:00.0 minute). Horn had a deficit of 2:36.1 minutes after two shooting errors. Philipp Nawrath (2/+3:12.7) and Justus Strelow (2/3:19.4) finished in 13th and 14th place.
Horn impresses in the individual
The DSV women, on the other hand, had experienced a debacle in the individual race on Tuesday. Janina Hettich-Walz was the best in 17th place, while overall World Cup winner Franziska Preuß had a sobering 29th place.
