The 21-year-old also looks back on her first World Cup victory in the mass start in Le Grand-Bornand: “It was a rollercoaster ride. The day before, I had lost my ski on the downhill and felt like I could throw everything away.”
In addition to this triumph, she collected top-five results in Oberhof and Antholz, as well as World Championship bronze in the mixed relay. For the new season, Grotian has worked specifically on her biggest weakness – shooting: “I had a new stock built and worked a lot on shooting.”
Despite increasing expectations from the outside, she tries to maintain the fun of the sport: “You just mustn’t listen too much to the pressure.”
Grotian has arrived in the world elite
Grotian finally made the leap into the world elite last season, which is why her sights are now clearly set on her childhood dream: participating in the Olympic Games in Milan and Cortina.
The prospect of competitions in Antholz, only an hour and a half from her home, particularly excites her: “The anticipation is huge because it’s almost like a home World Cup or Olympic Games in your own country.”
After her successes last year and the stable build-up in the summer, Grotian is considered one of the most exciting German athletes of the Olympic season.
