Biathlon star struggles with chaotic preparation

Hanna Öberg had anything but optimal preparation

For double Olympic champion Hanna Öberg, the preparation for the new biathlon season has been anything but optimal.

In a few weeks, the new biathlon season begins. While most athletes follow a strict plan, the preparation for two-time Olympic champion Hanna Öberg has been anything but smooth.

As early as spring, she was unable to participate in an altitude training camp in Italy due to illness. “That seemed like the right decision to me,” the athlete said in an interview with the newspaper Expressen .

“I was sick several times throughout April, and it continued. Only at the end of May/beginning of June was I able to start training properly again.”

Öberg with health problems

Although a regular preparation was successful in the summer, the next setback soon followed. In September, Öberg had to cancel the altitude training camp in France due to illness.

As a result, the 29-year-old was unable to participate in the test runs in Östersund last week.

“It was definitely quite chaotic this autumn,” Öberg explained. It is “always frustrating when you can’t stick to the plan.”

At least: She was convinced by the work with shooting coach Jean-Marc Chabloz in the summer.

Strong shooting as a basis

“There, I feel that I have built more confidence. That is something I want to continue working on in the winter. I would say that we have found important keys, especially in prone shooting. And I think that will definitely lead to results.”

By the way: The positive impression regarding shooting training was recently confirmed by her coach himself. “I think she is the best Hanna I have ever seen in a pre-season,” he stated in an interview with SVT .

The start of the new season begins on November 29 in Östersund.
