The decision of the Austrian ex-national player, who had celebrated his comeback after a skull base broken about a month ago in the Conference League, announced his club Rapid Vienna on Tuesday.
Burgstaller honestly: “The most difficult decision”
“To stop now is the most difficult decision of my entire football life,” said Burgstaller in the club announcement.
“If someone had told me that I would make this decision as a 36-year-old player of the SK Rapid, I would not have thought this trip possible.”
Burgstaller played in Germany from January 2015 to summer 2022. The striker completed a total of 246 encounters in the Bundesliga and in the lower house for 1. FC Nürnberg, Schalke 04 and FC St. Pauli.
