Trier misses the sole start record. The game remains completely open until halftime, but then comes the cold shower.
No sole start record for the promoted team: Oldenburg point guard Christopher Clemons single-handedly stopped the furious season opener of the VET-Concept Gladiators Trier.
The 28-year-old contributed an outstanding 52 points, nearly half of all scores, to his EWE Baskets Oldenburg’s 108:85 (51:50) victory against the previously convincing newcomer, who suffered their first-ever defeat in the Basketball Bundesliga (BBL).

Duel of the best players: Brooks against Clemons
With five wins from the first five league games, Trier could have secured the sole start record for a promoted team. Instead, the team under head coach Jacques Schneider must now rank alongside the Würzburg Baskets (2015/2016) and the Rostock Seawolves (2022/2023, each with four wins).
BBL: Clemons Outshines Everyone
Against the overwhelmingly dominant Clemons, who achieved a three-point shooting percentage of 81.8%, even Eli Brooks as Trier’s best player (22 points) could do nothing.
For a long time, everything pointed to an exciting and balanced match between the Bundesliga newcomer and the 2009 champion: with a focused performance, the season’s surprise team couldn’t be shaken off until halftime. But then came the cold shower – suddenly, nothing was working for Trier anymore. In contrast, Clemons succeeded at almost everything.
