Club icon on a farewell tour: Vardy leaves Leicester City

The striker has been playing for Leicester for 13 years – but now the end is in sight.

Club icon Jamie Vardy will leave the former English surprise champion Leicester City at the end of the season. The 38-year-old announced his farewell in an emotional message via social media.

The attacker switched to Leicester City in 2012 for around one million pounds from Fleetwood Town. In 496 games he scored 198 goals and was instrumental in some of the greatest successes in the history of the club: the sensational win of the Premier League 2016, the FA-Cup victory 2021 and the promotion to the Premier League in the 2023/24 season.

Vardy scored seven goals in the current season, but was unable to prevent Leicester City’s descent. He described the season as a “total embarrassment” and apologized publicly with the fans, and his last home game for Leicester City will take place on May 18 against Ipswich Town. The chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanprabha praised Vardy as “unique” and emphasized that he would always be part of the Leicester family.

According to his own statement, Vardy wants to continue his career, according to reports there are already interest from clubs from the US League MLS.
