Domen Prevc is creating a new world record in ski flying. The Slovenian creates a new fabulous width and still does not win the jump.
What an insane jump from Domen Prevc! The Slovenen flew to an incredible 254.5 meters in its last jump of the season in Planica.
He thus improved the ski flight world record by one meter. The Austrian Stefan Kraft had set up the previous world record eight years ago.
“World record! Madness as he stands”, ARD commentator Tom Bartels roared after the jump that Prevc was able to stand in the flat.
Domen Prevc continued his family’s ski flight story: his brother Peter was the first person to fly 250 meters in Vikersund in 2015, his sister Nika also secured the world women in Vikers and two weeks ago with 236.5.
Ski flying: Despite the world record, Prevc doesn’t win
Curious: Because the landing was anything but technically perfect, Prevc did not win jumping. His compatriot Anze Lanisek flew 241.5 m with a shorter attempt and better landing and successfully defended the lead after the first round.
In the first round, Lanisek also stood his jump to 247.5 meters with a perfect telemark.
The podium completed Andreas Wellinger. The day after the rushing farewell to Markus Eisenbichler, he flew twice 236.5 m (455.8 points) and after two season wins and the RAW-Air triumph ensured another highlight. The five -time winner Pius Paschke made sixth place (231.5+237.0) a more than conciliatory conclusion of a winter that is difficult after the turn of the year. Karl Geiger, 2020 in Planica Skiflug world champion, flew to tenth with 227.5 and 233.5 m.
Eisenbichler, the final jumper of the German team on Saturday, had not qualified for the final individual flying of the 30 World Cup best. The six-time world champion cheered on the German planes on the hill on Sunday as well as biathlon ace Franziska Preuss. The World Cup sixth Philipp Raimund, who fights with his fear of heights, did without flights in Planica.
