Niko Springer achieves a surprise at the Dutch Darts Championship. Ricardo Pietreczko also plays great.
Niko Springer achieved a great coup on Saturday evening. The German darts professional won his round of 32 match at the Dutch Darts Championship in Rosmalen against Stephen Bunting with 6:5 in legs. This means that the 24-year-old will still be there on Sunday at the seventh tournament of the PDC European Tour.
In the round of 16, he will face Martin Schindler in the German duel. Ricardo Pietreczko is also still in the running after a 6:4 win against Josh Rock.
Niko Springer has beaten Stephen Bunting
For Springer, it is one of the biggest victories of his young career. As number 93 in the current world rankings, he was 89 places behind his opponent. But that was hardly noticeable in the match.
Springer Checks Highfinish to Win
Bunting got off to a better start with a 3:1 lead. But then Springer quickly came back to 3:3. In the following, both held their throws and so the decision fell in the last leg.
There, the Englishman and Premier League starter missed two match darts. The “Meenzer Bub” on the other hand remained cool and made the surprise perfect with a 100-point finish via 20, Triple-16, Double-16.
Pikachu Shocks Rock
In the last match of the evening Pietreczko also played great. The number 29 in the world won 6:4 against Josh Rock.
“Pikachu” managed two breaks right at the start, but he also had his serve taken away once. Nevertheless, the German did not let the victory be taken away from him via 4:2 and 5:3.
