Final showdown at the World Grand Prix. SPORT1 is broadcasting the final clash between Luke Littler and Luke Humphries live on free TV.
A final that all fans wanted and now have received: Luke Littler and Luke Humphries will compete for the World Grand Prix title on Sunday evening at the Mattioli Arena in Leicester. SPORT1 will broadcast the final live from 9 PM on free TV.
This is already the fifth major final in which Littler and Humphries have faced each other. In August, Littler came out on top at the New Zealand Darts Masters, winning 8-4 in legs. In May, Humphries won the Premier League final (11-8 in legs).
World champion Littler confidently won his semifinal 5-1 in sets against Jonny Clayton. The decisive moment came in the fourth set when Littler checked 140 points in the decider to take a 3-1 lead in sets.
Clayton was left with 32 points remaining and had to watch as Littler delivered a true highlight with a high finish, roaring with joy afterwards. “The Nuke” averaged 97.26 points in the three-dart average, while “The Ferret” fell short with 91.13 points.
In the first semifinal on Saturday evening, Humphries, the number 1 in the PDC Order of Merit, prevailed 5-3 in sets against Dutchman Danny Noppert.
The Englishman looked like the sure winner at 4-1 in sets, but Noppert fought back to 3-4 before Humphries played strongly in the eighth set to secure the match.
“Cool Hand Luke” averaged 93.46 points in the three-dart average, while “The Freeze” averaged 87.71 points. Humphries threw a total of 14 maximums, Noppert ten.
In the final, it is “Best of 11 sets.” The unique aspect of the World Grand Prix is that, according to the “Double-In/Double Out” format, players must not only finish each leg with a double but also start with a double. Only after a double at the beginning do the scores count.
