Demand for more money: Is Dembélé endangering the PSG peace?

Ousmane Dembélé is coming off the most successful year of his career. Will this pay off financially as well?

The year could hardly have gone better for Ousmane Dembélé. First, the 28-year-old won the championship, cup, and Champions League with Paris Saint-Germain, then he was awarded the prestigious Ballon d’Or. These successes significantly strengthen the offensive artist’s negotiating position.

According to the French newspaper L’Équipe , the former Dortmund player has now reportedly requested an adjustment to his contract with PSG, which runs until 2028. Currently, Dembélé earns around 18 million euros gross per year—apparently no longer enough for him.

If the specialist publication is to be believed, he has legitimate hopes for a salary increase. Talks between both parties have reportedly already begun.

The club’s officials are said to have indicated that they greatly appreciate the striker’s contribution to the success of the past season. However, the club bosses reportedly want to set the pace of the negotiations themselves.

Dembélé should not endanger team chemistry

And there is another catch: The club is said to place great importance on not disrupting the team chemistry. In the past, the club had to deal with many competing egos—but head coach Luis Enrique managed to form a united team. This should not be jeopardized.

And this also applies in financial terms. Under the new sports director, the club is pursuing a new course, increasingly focusing on performance-based contracts. As part of this, salaries have also been cut.

Dembélé has been playing for Paris since 2023 and recorded 51 scoring points in 53 competitive matches last season.
