Both Oberstdorf and Oberwiesenthal/Klingenthal are suitable as organizers.
The German Ski Association (DSV) wants to host a Nordic Ski World Cup again in 2031. “Yes, we are throwing our hat into the ring two years earlier,” said DSV board member and marketing manager Stefan Schwarzbach of the Allgäuer Zeitung . Both Oberstdorf and Oberwiesenthal/Klingenthal are suitable as organizers.
Originally, an application for the title fights in ski jumping, cross -country skiing and the Nordic combination was only planned for 2033. However, because Ramsau in Austria did without at short notice, Germany is now intervene in the race. It would be the first World Cup for Klingenthal and Oberwiesenthal. Oberstdorf was hosting in 1987, 2005 and 2021.
Planica so far only competitor
So far, the only competitor is the Slovenian Planica, which, however, had to take a lot of criticism at the 2023 World Cup with high admission prices and empty stands. The World Cup 2031 will be awarded in Belgrade at the FIS Congress in June 2026. Until then, the DSV plans to determine the final applicant in a process that is as clean as possible.
The World Championships 2027 take place in Falun (Sweden). In addition to Oberstdorf, which the 2021 World Cup had to play without spectators because of the Corona pandemic, only Oberhof (1931) was hosted in Germany.
