Question: You are currently damn for doing nothing after the Olympic victory because you are injured.

Marie Reichert: At the beginning of the year I tore my knee and I am currently in rehabilitation at the Hanover Olympic base. Before that I played the first half of the season in Italy, until then it went very well for me. I would say that I have played my strongest season there. The time for such an injury is never cheap, but I am grateful that this only happened after the Olympic Games. It was almost half a year ago and I have been very satisfied with the course of the rehab.

Question: Was that due to the high double load due to 3×3 basketball and the classic basketball 5 against 5 in the hall?

Reichert: The burden is high, but for me it was actually just bad luck. I stepped in another player in training without intention. I am now targeting to be ready for use in January or February. That would be in the middle of the indoor season. I missed the 3×3 world and European Championship this year. I go to the comeback completely without pressure and would like to attack the international tournaments again next year.

Question: Which discipline do you prefer to play 5 or 3×3?

Reichert: 3×3 basketball has an additional factor for me personally because it is a very small team and you need an even more intensive relationship with your teammates. It is extremely important that it matted between everyone. And it never happens that you sit on the bench for a long time and don’t really come in because there is a fixed order of rotating with the 3×3 and therefore all have the same amount of time.

Question: Can you use the forced break for your business studies?

Reichert: Last year, the multiple burden was a big challenge. In 2024, it was very intense for me in terms of sport, since we first prepared for the Olympic qualification and then in summer for the Olympic Games. Due to this high training work and the many trips, it was actually not easy to find a routine everyday life for studying. But thanks to my distance learning at the “IU” International University, I am very flexible with regard to my studies and was able to catch up with a lot in autumn and winter.

Question: You are currently also involved in management.

Reichert: Yes, I study with a focus on sports management and marketing. It was now the great chance to take on the role of the Bundesliga manager during the injury break at the first 3×3 professional team of the TK Hannover. I organize the around the team and search for tournaments. This is a great challenge.

Question: How important are sports assistance funding and the Deutsche Bank Sport scholarship for you?

Reichert: I am very grateful to Deutsche Bank and Sporthilfe for the support for the past few years. Financial support is a great help to carry out and combine my sport and my studies all year round. This makes it possible for me to finance my distance learning at a private university and thus be flexible enough for my sport.

Question: Returned back in Paris 2024: What was the success factor for winning the gold medal?

Reichert: It was a very special situation. Compared to the qualification in spring, the team was filled in a position. We therefore had only one preparation tournament in the new constellation in front of Paris. But it immediately matted extremely well. The constellation with two experienced and two “chicks”, which I have heard, worked really well. Everyone knew their role, did their job as best as possible and was mostly satisfied with what was attributed to her as a task.

Question: The players were passed around after the Olympic victory, for them there was still the special award in their hometown.

Reichert: That’s right. Until then, I didn’t know that I was the first Olympic champion from Kassel. The city is not a classic sports metropolis. I am also commuting a lot from the age of 15, to Marburg and Grünberg because there was no team in Kassel that would have fit in terms of performance. All the more, the reception was pleased with the entry in the city’s Golden Book. That was very, very cool.

Almost a Year Ago, Marie Reichert Won Gold at the Olympics with the Women’s 3×3 National Team. Currently, she has to take a step back due to a torn cruciate ligament. She is now using the time for her studies.
