FC Bayern: This escape completely backfired

The sale of Adam Aznou also drew criticism for FC Bayern. Personally, the Moroccan has experienced a sporting downturn since his transfer to Everton FC, which is why another move is on the horizon.

“We regret that there could be no further joint path with Adam. Our goal is to rely even more on our talents in the future,” emphasized sporting director Max Eberl after the sale of the 19-year-old full-back to FC Everton.

Sporting director Christoph Freund stated at the time: “The player also has to agree with how we plan as a club. It didn’t fully align.” It was Aznou’s “great wish” to “make this transfer.”

Aznou Sees No Future at FC Bayern

The Moroccan, who moved from FC Barcelona’s renowned youth academy to Munich in the summer of 2022, evidently saw no suitable prospects at FC Bayern.

After Aznou had only received 17 minutes of playing time with the first team under coach Vincent Kompany in the first half of the 2024/25 season, he moved on loan to Real Valladolid in the second half.

At the Spanish first division club, Aznou was a regular and played a total of 13 matches, but twelve of them were lost. The club was relegated without a whimper at the end of the season – anything but conducive to the youngster’s self-confidence.

After his return to Munich, Aznou at least received eight minutes of playing time at the Club World Cup in the 10-0 thrashing of Auckland City. Nevertheless, the full-back pushed for a permanent departure. Everton FC finally secured its services for around nine million euros.

Move to Everton FC Doesn’t Work Out

“The project is really exciting,” Aznou rejoiced when signing with the Liverpool club. “The Premier League is the best league in the world. I can hardly wait.”

However, the youngster’s expectations have not yet been met. After his first half-year at Everton, the balance sheet is sobering: Aznou gets even less playing time than before at FC Bayern – his situation has even worsened.

So far, the 19-year-old has not played a single competitive minute for the Toffees’ first team. After temporary ankle problems, Aznou was regularly in the squad from the fourth matchday onwards, but he only played three times for Everton’s U21 – all three matches were lost.

Will Aznou Be Loaned Out in Winter?

In coach David Moyes’ team, there is currently no way past regular starter Vitaliy Mykolenko, who is entrenched at left-back. As the English portal Teamtalk recently reported, Everton is therefore exploring the possibility of a winter loan to guarantee Aznou regular playing time.

Accordingly, this initiative is also met with approval from the player’s side, as Aznou urgently needs to play with a view to a possible nomination for the 2026 World Cup. The move to the island also had serious consequences for his career in the Moroccan national team.

Aznou Fights for Return to National Team

In September 2024, Aznou, as a Bayern player, made his debut for the senior team at just 18 years and three months old. Two more appearances followed in November, and he was also nominated in March 2025. Since then, however, Aznou has been left out – even at the currently ongoing Africa Cup, which is ironically being held in his home country.

A loan deal in the second half of the season could help Aznou still catch the World Cup train. He apparently has not set his sights on a specific club; According to Teamtalk , his agents are scouting European leagues.

An option might emerge in the Netherlands: As Telegraaf journalist Mike Verweij reports, the struggling traditional club Ajax Amsterdam is reportedly considering Aznou, among others, as a candidate for their defense.

Would Aznou Have a Chance at FC Bayern?

Ultimately, the impression remains that Aznou made the wrong decision with his move to Everton. This is further reinforced by the fact that more and more youth players at FC Bayern have received playing time and sometimes even moved into the foreground during the current season.

Not least at the end of September, opportunities could certainly have arisen for Aznou when Josip Stanisic, another option for left-back, was injured. During this phase, even Tom Bischof and Konrad Laimer had to fill in at the position temporarily.

Now Aznou is left with the hope that a wisely chosen loan will give him the necessary momentum to sustainably steer his young professional career in the right direction.
