Forbidden wax is found on the skis of Poland’s Pawel Wasek. His team is puzzled.

“We are just as surprised because we definitely do not own such waxes, and haven’t for a very long time,” said head coach Maciej Maciusiak.

Four Hills Tournament: Wasek Disqualified

Wasek was disqualified on Saturday in Innsbruck because traces of fluorine wax were discovered on his skis.

“These are not trace amounts. The results suggest that the skis were waxed with fluorine,” Maciusiak told Polish media.

Fluorine Forbidden for Over Two Years

Fluorine has been banned in FIS competitions for more than two years for environmental and health reasons, but until now it had been applied more in cross-country skiing or alpine skiing. This is the first case in ski jumping.

Wasek also protests his innocence. The 26-year-old had initially finished 36th in Saturday’s qualification for the Bergisel jumping event (1:30 PM in the LIVE TICKER). However, disqualification followed shortly thereafter.

Four Hills Tournament: Zajc Suspended After Suit Infraction

There have been several disqualifications during the current tournament. The most prominent case is Timi Zajc, whose suit did not comply with regulations in both Oberstdorf and Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

As a result, the Slovenian, who had initially finished second in Oberstdorf, was suspended for the remainder of the tournament.
