Four times Oberstdorf: combined team ensures curiosity

Strongest Oberstdorfer: Vinzenz Geiger

In the World Cup race of Trondheim, the entire German season comes from the same club on Thursday.

The German relay becomes a pure Oberstdorf Express: With four athletes from the Bavarian winter sports stronghold, the German combiners go to the team competition of the World Cup in Trondheim. National coach Eric Frenzel gave Wendelin Thannheimer the preference in front of the Black Forest Manuel.

After Thursday (11.30 a.m. Springen/3:50 p.m. Ski Run), Thannheimer will start with Olympic champion Vinzenz Geiger, Julian Schmid and Johannes Rydzek – the entire quartet comes from the Oberstdorf ski club.

“It doesn’t exist so often”

“This is Supercool, also for our former home trainer Thomas Müller, who did incredible work,” Schmid said before the World Cup: “There are not so often that many people from the same place and the same ski club go there.” In 1988, said Müller was the Olympic champion with the German team.

It is the last season at the World Championships for the time being, in 2027 the pure men’s team competition is not in Falun. The defending champion in Trondheim is Norway, Germany was last triumphed in Lahti in 2017 – at that time Rydzek was already there.
