Niko Springer delivers an absolute mad match at the UK Open and plays the second highest Average at this tournament. He sets a German record.
Absolute madness in minhead! Niko Springer played an average of 115.92 at the UK Open (live at Sport1 on Free TV and Livestream) and thus the second highest in the tournament history.
Only record world champion Phil Taylor was once better. The Englishman came to 118.66 in 2010.
Niko Springer provided a German Average record
In the 6: 2 against the Norwegian Cor Dekker, the “Meenzer Bub” also set a German record, and a German player never gave a better average at a major tournament.
Springer threw two 11- and 12-darter each, none of his leg gains needed. Coupled with five 180s and a double quota of 50 percent, he moved into the second round more than confidently.
Madness comeback in round 2
Patrick Geraets was waiting there, who demanded everything. The Dutch started the game furiously and played an average of over 115 points in the meantime. Geraets quickly led 5: 1, Springer was in front of that.
But thanks to an insane comeback with two 12-more, Springer turned the game spectacular and won 6: 5 in the end. With the sixth match dart, he secured the move into round 3.
There, however, he failed 5: 6 on the Irish Dylan Slevin. The 24-year-old, who started really well and 3-0, led (including a 170 finish), then missed to tie in to his achievements of the first two rounds.
In the end, he played an average of 86 points and had to give up. Nevertheless, the tournament for the “Meenzer Bub” was a great success, also because he wrote history.
