The German biathlon relay team can retroactively hope for Olympic gold. A Russian gold athlete from 2014 is finally convicted.
Some former German biathletes could soon have a golden surprise in their mailbox. Arnd Peiffer, Erik Lesser, Daniel Böhm, and Simon Schempp could retroactively receive Olympic gold.
The quartet originally won silver at the Sochi 2014 Games. Only 3.5 seconds were missing for the gold medal, which the Russian relay team secured.
From Olympic silver could become gold retroactively
But now, almost eleven years later, it is finally certain that the Russians won the gold by unfair means. A Swiss Federal Court dismissed the appeal of doping offender Evgeny Ustyugow, who belonged to the winning relay team in 2014.
For this reason, the International Olympic Committee can now decide on a re-allocation of the medals. For many protagonists of the biathlon world, a retroactive gold for Germany would be absolutely just.
