Lena Dürr shows an outstanding performance in the second run in Copper Mountain. This is rewarded with the podium. Superstar Mikaela Shiffrin skis in a league of her own.
With an impressive tour de force in the second run, ski star Lena Dürr achieved her first podium finish in the Olympic winter at the World Cup slalom in Copper Mountain. After ninth place in the first run, the 34-year-old raced to second place with the third-best time of the second run.
At the finish, Dürr had to admit defeat to US perpetual winner Mikaela Shiffrin in 1:50.32 minutes, one day after her outstanding sixth place in the giant slalom at her third top-10 placement in the third slalom of the season.
The Munich native’s deficit in the final reckoning was a proud 1.57 seconds.
Shiffrin’s lead in the first three slaloms of the season to second place was thus 1.66, 1.23 and now 1.57 seconds – literally a league of its own.
“I am incredibly happy with the second run, I was really not satisfied with the first, it didn’t fit together at all,” said Dürr, “the second run was another attempt at a full attack. It turned out quite well. A super weekend for me.”
Shiffrin extended her records with the success in the US state of Colorado. The 67th slalom victory also meant her 104th overall success in a World Cup race.
