German snowboarders: top results and Olympic tickets

Snowboarders Secure Olympic Tickets

After the World Cup in Calgary, a German quartet can compete in the halfpipe at the Olympic Games.

With the best World Cup result of his career, snowboarder Christoph Lechner has secured qualification for the Olympic Games.

The 25-year-old sports soldier from Tegernsee finished eighth at the Halfpipe World Cup in Calgary, thus meeting the DOSB standard in his first competition of the new year.

Snowboard Germany is thus sending a four-person team to the Olympic halfpipe competitions. In addition to Lechner, sisters Kona (18) and Leilani Ettel (24) from Pullach near Munich, as well as Anne Hedrich (19) from Emmendingen, met the standard. Leilani Ettel achieved the second-best result of her career in Calgary, finishing sixth.

“There’s a certain relief for everyone that the Olympic qualification is now complete,” said discipline coach Hansi Höpfl. He added it was “cool to see” that the association could send a quartet to Livigno. “We are rather small compared to other nations like Japan or the USA, and what has happened with us in recent years is strong.”
