German toboggan star announces decision after Olympic disappointment

After the Olympic luge victory, some celebrities contacted Max Langenhan to congratulate him. Including the Geissens and Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz.

Luge veteran Felix Loch experienced a disappointment in Cortina – now the 36-year-old announces his plans for the future.

Luge veteran Felix Loch (36) wants to continue his career until the 2030 Olympic Games in the French Alps. The record world champion from Berchtesgaden announced this on Tuesday.

“My last Olympic Games… will have to wait a little longer!”, Loch wrote on Instagram: “I will continue – as long as I am healthy and fit.”

Felix Loch missed gold in Cortina

Luge star Loch makes decision with his family

He loves his sport, “and as long as I can compete at the top, I will give everything to be at the start for Team Germany again in 2030,” Loch added. He made the decision in consultation with his wife Lisa and their two sons.

Loch had only finished sixth in Cortina d’Ampezzo during teammate Max Langenhan’s Olympic victory and had experienced a disappointment at the Olympic Games for the third time in a row.

He had already missed the podium in Pyeongchang 2018 and Beijing 2022. In 2010 in Vancouver and 2014 in Sochi, he won gold respectively. In addition, there is an Olympic victory with the team relay in 2014.

Loch has overall World Cup in sight

First, however, Loch is focusing on the end of the Olympic winter. In St. Moritz and Altenberg, he is aiming for victory in the overall World Cup. He is currently one point ahead of Olympic runner-up Jonas Müller (Austria).

“Of course, I would be happy if I could win the overall World Cup again,” Loch said: “Then one could say it was a conciliatory season.”
