The curious coaching development among basketball players is enriched by another chapter – even if the coach now expresses itself again.
FC Bayern’s basketball players continue to do without their own statement on the development around their trainer Gordon Herbert. Instead of a joint explanation with the coach, the Munich team only published a statement by Herbert himself.
Gordon Herbert becomes the new Canadian national coach
“I informed FC Bayern Basketball some time ago about the general interest from my homeland,” said Herbert.
Causa Herbert: Bayern bosses silence
The former national coach continues: “It should be emphasized that the basic agreement with Canada neither influences my current contract with Bavaria nor a possible contract extension with Bayern Munich beyond the summer of 2026.”
Herbert also admitted that the communication could have been “better handled”: “Regardless of this, my commitment to FC Bayern basketball is 100 percent. Because the job in Munich fulfills me extremely, I am very respectful here and I have as much desire to work with this club as long as I will be possible.”
There is more “not to say”. No person said on the part of FC Bayern. It is completely open whether Herbert will be a coach of the Munich coach in the next summer.
Bavaria already loses its managing director
Herbert, whose contract would have expired anyway, will lead to further heights at the 2027 World Cup in the 2027 World Cup and at the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. The team led by NBA superstar Shai Gilgeous-Alexander won the bronze medal at the German World Cup Triumph 2023 in the Philippines and is considered to be highly directed.
Herbert was a Canadian assistant coach from 2001 to 2002, in 2018 he returned to the sidelines and accompanied the team through several qualification phases for the World Cup and at the Olympic qualification tournament 2021.
Bayern Munich had only announced on Wednesday that Managing Director Marko Pesic will cede at the BBL heading leader at the end of the year at the end of the year.
