Ricardo Pietreczko and Martin Schindler eliminated the absolute favorites at the Team World Cup.
Ricardo Pietreczko and Martin Schindler sensationally triumphed over the English duo of Luke Littler and Luke Humphries in the round of 16 of the Team World Cup. The German team prevailed in Frankfurt with 8:4 in legs and thus advanced to the quarter-finals.
“Germany is in the quarter-finals. England is defeated. The greatest victory in German darts history,” DAZN commentator Adrian Geiler shouted into the microphone after the end of the match.
Schindler and Pietreczko shock England
After the defeat, darts prodigy Littler’s frustration was evident. After a brief high-five with his opponents, he disappeared from the stage in a flash, while his teammate Humphries stayed a little longer and even briefly hugged the two Germans to congratulate them.
“Luke and Luke were stressed by the role of favourites, you could tell. The pressure got to them at some point and they buckled. Martin and Ricardo did not,” darts icon Wayne Mardle analysed after the match.
German Duo Starts Strong into the Match
“The perfect start for Germany. What is going on here,” Geiler had already shown himself surprised after the strong start of the German duo. Pietreczko and Schindler had taken a 2:0 lead in legs.
Littler and Humphries managed to equalize at 2:2, but then “Pikachu” achieved a high finish over 106 points, before “The Wall” checked two legs in a row over the double ten.
“World class. Really, really good. And England makes mistakes,” expert René Eidams judged after the intermediate 5:2 lead, which the German duo even improved to 7:2.
The English duo responded again, but Pietreczko finally threw the decisive arrow for the match win (8:4). In the quarter-finals, Germany will face the winner of the duel between Argentina and Australia.
