The NBA mourns the time for Hall-of-Famer Dick Barnett. The left -hander, who led the New York Knicks in 1970 and 1973 to its only two titles, died at the age of 88.
“We are deeply sad about the death of the Knicks legend, Dr. Richard Barnett,” said a message from the franchise: “During his glamorous career, Dick Barnett embodied everything it means to be a New York kink, both on and next to the square.”
Knicks no longer missed number
Barnett was pulled in the draft by the Syracuse Nationals in 1959 and also played for La Lakers before moving to New York in 1965. In nine seasons at the Knicks, he came to 15.6 points on average.
He became famous with his unorthodox “Fall Back, Baby” jump shot. The Knicks have not awarded number 12 in honor since 1990.
