Hummels plays through at Roma victory

The 2014 world champion receives the trust of coach Claudio Ranieri again – and can cheer late.

Mats Hummels received another effort over 90 minutes from the Italian first division club AS Rome – and was allowed to cheer late. During the relegation -threatened US Lecce, the Roma won 1-0 (0-0) on the 30th matchday of Serie A through the goal of Artem Dowbyk (80th) and remains a persistent contender to a European Cup field due to the seventh league success. The Roma initially passed the city rival Lazio and is sixth with 52 points, a Champions League rank is only four points away.

Rio World Champion Hummels was most recently commuting between the bank and starting eleven, and for the twelfth time he played in series A against Lecce. After his red card in mid-March at the Europa League-Aus against Athletic Bilbao, the 36-year-old will not receive a new contract in the “Eternal City”.
