Italy’s press pays homage to Hummels: “A picture book career”

“Ciao Hummels, a long journey comes to an end,” writes the newspaper Corriere Dello Sport.

In view of Mats Hummels’s end of the career, the Italian press was also bending ahead of the 2014 world champion. “Ciao Hummels, a long journey comes to an end! Thanks for everything,” wrote the newspaper Corriere Dello Sport about the 36-year-old, who is under contract with AS Rome until the end of the season.

Hummels announced the end of his career for the summer on Friday. The Gazzetta Dello Sport also said goodbye to the veteran for whom Rome is his first stop abroad. “Hummels says Basta. After the end of the contract with AS Rome, the Rio world champion ends a picture book career,” it said.

The newspaper IL Messaggero commented: “Now it is really over. After a long hesitation, Hummels has decided to end a great career.” Meanwhile, his club as Rome wrote only two words in German on social networks: “Thanks Legend!”, Garnished with a red and a yellow heart.
