Liverpool coach Arne Slot would have liked to continue working with Luis Díaz. However, he also defends the Colombian’s transfer to FC Bayern.
Arne Slot has admitted that he would have liked to continue to see Luis Díaz at FC Liverpool. “You always miss good footballers,” emphasized the Reds coach at the press conference before the match against Sunderland. “He was very important for us last season, but he wasn’t the only one.”
Díaz moved to Munich last summer for around 70 million euros. There, the winger has so far contributed to 32 goals in 30 competitive matches. In England, Liverpool has repeatedly been accused of letting the 28-year-old go too early.

Although Slot would have liked to continue working with Díaz, he also defended the transfer. The head coach made it clear that economic sustainability played a central role in the decision.
Slot: Díaz is “a good example of how this club works”
Díaz is “a good example of how this club works,” Slot explained. “If you get such an offer for a 28-year-old, the club decides to sell for reasons of sustainability. And that makes us an exception in the Premier League.”
Additionally, several key players have been replaced, and the squad still possesses high quality, Slot added. The Dutchman also referred to the Reds’ difficult offensive situation, which is also related to Alexander Isak’s injury.
The forward suffered a fibula fracture in December and has been out since then. “If Alex had been fit, would we have talked about it then too?” Slot asked rhetorically.
For Slot, it is clear that the club must stick to its philosophy. Liverpool wants to combine sporting success with economic reason, even if such decisions – as in the case of Díaz – trigger short-term discussions.
