Manchester City: clause at Gündogan confirmed

Ilkay Gündogan stays with Manchester City for the time being. A change in summer is still not excluded.

After the 5-2 victory against Crystal Palace, Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola confirmed that the Ilkay Gündogan contract was automatically extended by another year.

“He definitely has another year,” said Guardiola in an interview with media representatives. The background to the automatic extension is a clause that extended the working paper originally valid by 2025 by 2026.

The midfielder was in the starting eleven against Crystal Palace for the fourth time in a row and was on the pitch for 90 minutes. The 34-year-old has found his old form again and can help the Skyblues with it.

At Mancity it was anything but round, but the victory against the table twelfth consolidated at least fifth place in the Premier League.

Praise for the Gündogan from earlier times

“The Gündo of Leicester, Gündo von Bournemourh, the Gündo of today – that is the Gündo, which I remember when we won the triple and the quadruple,” said Guardiola about the previous achievements of the 34 -year -old.

How things will continue for Gündogan after the year is still open. City will continue to drive the planned upheaval in summer and rely on young players. After the farewell to leading player Kevin de Bruyne, one could at least hold on to a veteran. The decision at Gündogan should also depend on whether City secures a Champions League place.

Future still unclear

The contract situation of the city star has therefore been clarified, but a change could still be due. “I don’t know what happens in summer,” said Guardiola openly.

Recently there were always rumors about changing the ex -Dortmund to the Süper Lig – especially Galatasaray Istanbul should be interested. At this point, however, it was assumed that Gündogan could be hired free of charge.
