March in league two: Reynolds-Club Wrexham rises

With the help of two Hollywood stars, the AFC WREXHAM succeeds the third ascent one after the other. The Premier League is suddenly close.

The film-ready success story continues: The AFC Wrexham has made the march into the second English football league. Before the eyes of the prominent club owners and Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mcelhenney, the Welsh traditional club won 3-0 (2-0) against Charlton Athletic on Saturday and made the third promotion on the penultimate matchday of the third-class League one.

With 89 points, WREXHAM is no longer displaced from the first two places behind the dominant master Birmingham City (102) that bring the direct path to the championship. The Premier League is therefore only a further climb for the Welsh, for the first time since 1982 the “red dragons” are second -class again.

Just two years ago, Wrexham had returned to English professional football after 15 years, followed by the direct promotion to the League One, from where it goes further up. The takeover by Reynolds and Mcelhenney was decided in November 2020 by the vast majority of the voting club members, in 2021 the official purchase was made for the equivalent of almost 2.8 million euros.

The public interest in the club has increased rapidly since then. Thanks to a documentary series produced by Reynolds and Mcelhenney, Wrexham now has fans all over the world. The Welshers were already on a preparation tour in the USA and met there in test games on Manchester United and FC Chelsea.
