Thomas Müller is set to face Los Angeles and Heung-Min Son with the Vancouver Whitecaps. The longtime Bayern star recalls past dominant victories.
Thomas Müller is approaching his first Conference Semifinal of his career. The veteran of FC Bayern is looking forward to the playoff duel with another former Bundesliga star.
On Sunday at 3:30 AM German time, Müller will face the Los Angeles FC with the Vancouver Whitecaps – where former Hamburg and Leverkusen player Heung-Min Son is making a splash.

Thomas Müller faces Heung-Min Son in the playoffs
The previous encounters were mostly a clear affair: “When he was in Hamburg, when we came with Bayern, we destroyed them every time,” Müller said with a laugh.
“He is a big player there, I am a big player here”
“The problem is – Sonny was a very good player in Hamburg and Leverkusen – but the teams were not on the same level,” the ex-world champion explained further. It is therefore not the right approach to look back too far and make comparisons.
“Now we are playing for two very good teams. He is a big player there, I am a big player here,” Müller continued. In North America, the 36-year-old has ten games, nine goals and four assists. Son has twelve games, ten goals and four assists.
Müller explained accordingly: Opponent Los Angeles is dependent on Son, but also on his strike partner Denis Bouanga: “If the two do not score, they do not score. It is very difficult to shut them down. If we manage to do that, we have a good chance.”
The former international is approaching the semi-final premiere with his usual optimism: “I have no bad memories. For me, it is simply the first Conference Semifinal. We will beat them – that’s what I think about this game.”
Müller is happy about the many penalties
Overall, he feels extremely comfortable in Canada. Sportingly, his start was a complete success. Which is also due to the teammates, as he emphasizes.
“It was very easy to jump in, they put me in good positions. They got a penalty for me every game.”
The Whitecaps are “such a good group. Jesper Sörensen is certainly doing a good job with his coaching team.” It is also one of his strengths to adapt quickly: “I have adapted my playing style in nuances so often. Nothing special, but special.”
