Carsen Edwards leads FC Bayern Basketball to the next victory with a new top performance. The 26-year-old has long been one of the best players in Europe and has become a real star in Munich.
FC Bayern’s basketball players have the big sensation in mind. Due to the clear 100: 82 success against the direct competitor Roter Star Belgrade, Bayern climbed fifth. The direct move into the playoffs actually seems possible.
A player who has already developed into a real star in Munich is a large part in this success – Carsen Edwards.
Against Belgrade, Edwards scored an incredible 30 points again and, with his sometimes crazy degrees, which almost all landed in the basket, brought the frenetic guest fans to silence.
The Bayern supporters, however, acknowledged the gala performance of the Guard with “MVP speaking choirs”. The fact that Edwards is particularly celebrated by fans is now part of the standard in the SAP-Garden. It is striking, however, that the calls from game to game are getting louder. Edwards is now also a real term for the wide Munich audience.
Can Edwards actually become a league MVP?
In this form of gala, it seems that Edwards could actually even become a league MVP. His team -mate Shabazz Napier also underlines this.
“If we continue to play so well, he definitely has a big chance to be MVP,” said Napier after the game for Sport1 demand: “It would fit this season. In addition to us in the team and the staff, nobody believed that we could be good and now we are fighting for the top 6. Carsen has a really large part in that. He plays fantastic. “
Napier had recognized early in the season that Edwards could have this potential. After the second victory of the season, on matchday four of Paris, he said to Sport1 that Edwards is “our best player.”
He had scored 32 points against the French. In the season there were three more games with over 30 points and a whopping eight games with 25 or more points. On average, it is 19.9 points per game. In Europe’s premier class, only the former NBA star Kendrick Nunn (20.6) and the former Euroleague MVP Sasha Vezenkov (20.2) are a bit better.
Edwards becomes a real star in Munich with spectacle
Against Red Star, Edwards also showed one of his most spectacular properties. In the first 15 minutes, he remained completely without a successful throw, only to set 30 points in the remaining 25 minutes. In the five minutes to half -time alone, he scored 12 points.
“He can really run hot at all times. Hats off that he is always aggressive and wants to take responsibility and take us, ”said Napier. His trainer Gordon Herbert therefore compared Edwards with a “microwave” after the game.
The fans in Munich also love this hot run. In the SAP-Garden, the audience regularly becomes restless in a positive sense when Edwards drives the ball forward. In Munich you now know that you can now get ready to jump and cheer.
Due to his spectacular style of play, the 26-year-old has long since risen to the crowd favorite. Despite the numerous German world champions in the Bayern squad, it gets particularly loud when Edwards plays successfully. And the jersey with number three and Edwards’ name is also incredibly popular. Almost every second jersey wears this combination.
The enthusiasm for the Guard has even arrived at the FC Bayern football stars. When Raphael Guerreiro with his family attended a game by the basketball players, his children also wore an Edwards jersey.

Edwards was a college star
The star potential was already on the US college. He cracked several records for Purdue.
He inspired all of America in the “March Madness”, the traditional NCCA tournament final tournament. Initially, he scored 42 points in the victory against the reigning champion Villanova and just a few days later 42 points against Virginia. It was not enough for the title, but many also trusted him with a prominent role in the NBA.
However, when it comes to the NBA, the only 1.80m-sized Guard did not go as desired. For the Boston Celtics, he was able to repeat his potential again and again between 2019 and 2021, but he was probably not able to establish himself final because of his size, which was missing for the NBA.
Bayern patience is rewarded
After a short station in Detroit (2022), Edwards then moved to Fenerbahce Istanbul for the first time. Many expected Edwards to get up to the superstar in Europe. But in Turkey he disappointed on average with just eight points.
The move to Munich followed, where he initially had difficulties. Despite 11.3 points per game in the Euroleague, he was never fully convincing. Many have already stamped Edwards as a false purchase.
But Bayern continued to believe in him and were rewarded in the BBL playoffs. With 16.9 points, he led FCBB to the title as a final MVP. The Bavarians were convinced that Edwards can also deliver in Europe and extended its contract.
Exactly this patience is now bearing fruit this season. Edwards not only leads the team from success to success with top performance. He also inspires the Munich audience and, with his spectacular appearances, ensures that so far all home games in the new SAP-Garden were sold out. Munich has a new star and exceptionally this is not a footballer.
