The Dallas Mavericks are close to an agreement to hire Frank Vogel as Lead Assistant Coach. This was reported by ESPN insider Shams Charania on Wednesday. According to the report, Vogel will replace Sean Sweeney, who has moved to the San Antonio Spurs. For Vogel, it is a step back into the second row. The 52-year-old was fired by the Phoenix Suns in May 2024 after achieving a 49-33 record in his only season with the team. He originally signed a five-year, $31 million contract with the Suns in June 2023.

In addition to his time with the Lakers and Suns, Vogel also coached the Orlando Magic for two seasons and the Indiana Pacers for six seasons. Overall, his career record is 479 wins and 422 losses.
