Neureuther receives Golden Band

The former ski racer is honored for his effort to bring children to sport and to educate them about topics such as environmental protection.

Great honor for Felix Neureuther: The former ski racer was awarded the Golden Band for 2024 by the Association of German Sports Journalists (VDS). With this oldest German sports journalist prize, deserved athletes and personalities are recognized, who have made a name for themselves through their social commitment with a sporty background.

Neureuther was honored in Munich for his years of commitment to bring children to sports. During his active career, the 41-year-old organized the “Felix-Neureuther-Race-Camp” with the German Ski Association with young athletes and athlete, he developed the “Moving Smart” project with the Technical University of Munich. After his farewell to the 2019 slopes, the most successful German World Cup driver 2020 founded the Felix Neureuther Foundation with the aim of conveying joy in movement and sensitizing children and adolescents to environmental protection.

All of this is “particularly worthy of awards,” said Erich Laaser, honorary president of the VDS and jury chair. He emphasized: “Felix Neureuther is a role model for many.” Neureuther himself spoke of a “great honor” and added: “I come from a family in which the name ‘Gold’ means responsibility and obligation and why social engagement became a matter close to the heart.”

The son of the “Gold-Rosi” Mittermaier, who died in 2023, and Christian Neureuther continued: “Sport gave me so much, and I find it extremely important that we use athletes our voice to also make something socially.” Real stories that “do something” could only be told about the connection to the sports journalists.
