New low: Nunez eliminated

5th matchday of the Saudi Professional League and Al Ettifaq meets Al Hilal. All goals and highlights in the video.

Former Liverpool star Darwin Nunez has only been playing for Al-Hilal for half a year. Now, the Saudi club is dropping him from the league squad.

Last summer, Darwin Nunez moved to Saudi Arabia for more than 50 million euros, but now the former Liverpool star has been sidelined at Al-Hilal.

The striker was removed from his club’s squad for the Saudi Pro League and can now only play in the Asian Champions League. This means the Uruguayan will have a maximum of six more games available for the rest of the season (if Al-Hilal reaches the final) to impress for the World Cup in the summer.

Nunez a victim of the foreign player rule

The reason Nunez was dropped from the league squad is Karim Benzema. Al-Hilal signed the experienced attacker on Deadline Day.

Due to the league’s strict foreign player rule, the club had to react. Since the club also extended contracts with Kalidou Koulibaly after Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, the decision went against Nunez.

This is particularly bitter for the 26-year-old: In 16 league games, he contributed six goals and four assists for the league leader.
