At the German biathlon championships, a rule change is tried to adapt to the changes in the sport.
The new biathlon season only begins at the end of November, but the German championships will rise in a few weeks. From September 5th to 7th, the best German athletes will be determined on the Great Arber in the Bavarian Forest.
The German Ski Association (DSV) has made an interesting change for this. Because with the shortened individual competitions, it is not a time penalty for a false shot, but as usual in the other disciplines.
The men’s individual races are held over 15 kilometers, for women 12.5 kilometers are on the program.
The fact that instead of the usual time penalty over 45 seconds per false shot is now in the penalty round is due to changed priorities. The DSV wants to focus more on running in the individual competitions. This reflects the development of the past few years, where the performance of the athletes in the trail have improved more and more.
Are increasingly important in biathlon
“We will be a bit adapted to the shortened singles by replacing the time penalty with penalty rounds. The background to this is that we do not want to make the race too shooting,” biathlon sports director Felix Bitterling is quoted from Chiemgau24.de .
And further: “The topic of running strength is very important to us and is also becoming increasingly important in the overall context, in the top of the world.”
With good shooting performance alone, it is hardly possible today to win races.
