No German referee will be deployed at the European Championship of Women. Since 2009, a German referee has been part of all EM tournaments of women.
At the European Football Championship of women in Switzerland (July 2 to 27), no German referee will be deployed for the first time in 20 years. This results from the occupation by the European Football Union (UEFA) on Tuesday.
In addition to twelve referees from Europe, a referee from Brazil in Switzerland will also whistle as part of the cooperation between the UEFA and the South American umbrella organization Conmebol.
Only Hussein was there in 2022
In contrast, for the first time since the 2005 tournament in England, Germany is not there. As early as the European Championship 2022, only one game was led by the German Riem Hussein.
Before Bibiana Steinhaus-Webb 2020 ended her career as an active referee in the professional sector, there were much more. The now 46-year-old was in action at the European Championship tournaments in 2009, 2013 and 2017 and whistled the third parties of all referees (9) in this competition according to the Swiss Esther Staubli and the Ukrainian Kateryna Monzul.
