The Darts World Championship is getting even bigger! As the PDC announced on Monday, the World Cup finals will take place with 128 participants from December. At the past world championships, 96 dart players fought for the World Cup crown.

Record prize money “will make headlines”

“The prize money of one million pounds for the world champion reflects the position of darts as one of the most exciting and sought-after sports in the world and the historical sum will rightly make headlines, since it is the greatest prize money that has ever been paid out in this sport,” PDC managing director Matt Porter is quoted in a press release.

“The increase in the prize money announced today also shows our commitment to increase the earning opportunities for players at all levels of the PDC system. The incredible growth of the PDC in recent years has raised darts to an unprecedented level, both in terms of playing as well as the playing possibilities and the worldwide interest, and this is a big moment for all players who have the ambition to put it at the head of sport.”

PDC confirms the largest price increase increase

The PDC confirmed the largest price increase in its history. The association will release a total of £ 25 million (around 30 million euros) in the coming year.

Other tournaments such as the World Grand Prix, the Players Championship Finals, the European Championship and the UK Open will also be increased for a prize money of £ 750,000 next year.

The prize money of the European Tour Events will be increased to £ 230,000 next year, while the 34 Players Championship Events are each preserved £ 150,000.
