After three stations in Europe, the Australian returns as a women’s national coach.

After his early farewell to Olympique Lyon, Joe Montemurro was presented as the new national coach of the Australian footballers.

After many years with top European teams, the 55-year-old Australian is drawn back home as expected.

“This team means so much for so many Australians, and I feel honored to have the opportunity to shape the next chapter,” said Montemurro, who replaces the Matildas InterimScoach Tom Sermanni (70) when it was announced on Monday.

In the coming year, the Asia Cup will be in its own country for Australia, followed by the 2027 World Cup in Brazil.
