Olympic ticket: setback for German curl at World Cup

The curling World Cup goes into the final sprint. For Germany, a lot is at stake in the two final parties.

The German curlers had to accept a setback at the World Cup in Canada in the fight for the qualification for the 2026 Winter Olympics. The team around Skip Marc Muskatewitz clearly lost its tenth game against Italy with 3: 9 and missed a preliminary step to a direct ticket for the games in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo.

With a record of four wins and six defeats, the German team remains on the same way with Italy and the United States in the 13th league, in which it is played against every opponent. The best seven teams in the 2024 and 2025 world championships will be part of the games next year. European champion Germany has everything in their own hand on the final day.

On Friday, the games awaited the second -placed top team Scotland (5:00 p.m. CET) and against the direct competitor USA (10 p.m. CET), who also trembles for the ticket for the games (February 6th to 22nd, 2026). The qualification for the play-off phase and the associated struggle for a World Cup medal is almost hopeless-the top six teams will play the new world champion in the final round from Saturday.

The DCV team, fifth of the World Cup from 2024, is fighting for his first Olympic participation since Sotschi 2014. If the direct ticket does not work, there will be another chance in Kelowna, Canada in December. Two additional starting places are played there.
