During the ongoing World Championship, the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) has announced investments in the globalization of the sport. As the governing body announced, a total of over three million pounds will flow into the so-called “Global Affiliate Tours” from 2026 to 2028, which include all regional tournament series worldwide such as the “Asian Tour” or “Championship Darts Corporation” in North America.

Primarily with increased prize money, the PDC aims to strengthen the foundation of professional darts outside Europe and accelerate the transition to the European elite. In addition, “the leading players of each region will also have the opportunity to participate in the PDC Qualifying School and the preliminary rounds of the World Masters, as well as the World Cup, Grand Slam, and World Championship,” the statement said.

PDC CEO speaks of “most significant announcement for the global growth of darts”

“This is a strong sign of support for all our global partner tours and possibly the most significant announcement ever for the worldwide growth of darts,” said PDC CEO Matt Porter: “This announcement gives our global partners planning certainty for the next three years and at the same time offers them a platform to further develop the sport in their regions. We are entering an extremely exciting new era for our sport.”

The announcement also follows a growing success of international professionals, which is also evident at this year’s World Championship.

There, recently, India’s Nitin Kumar, Kenya’s David Munyua, and Japan’s Motomu Sakai caused a upset with their first-round victories.
