Podest! Women defy Prussia failure

At the last World Cup relay race of the season in Nove Mesto, the inexperienced DSV quartet comes in third-France wins from Norway.

Despite the lack of Franziska Preuss, the German biathletes surprisingly brought in a podium. At the last World Cup relay race of the season in Nove Mesto, the 22-year-old quartet with Julia Tannheimer (19), Selina Grotian (20), Johanna Puff (22) and Sophia Schneider (27) came in third.

In the end, 18 seconds were missing in second place without a penalty round and with eight loading. As in the men’s relay, France (0 penalty rounds+5 followers) won clearly off Norway (0+11/+26.1 seconds).

The most inexperienced season in the field (151 World Cup races) showed good performance from the start and, in contrast to the men, remained without major mistakes. Start runner Puff and Tannheimer only invited once, Schneider four times. Final runner Selina Grotian remained flawless and secured the third podium in the fifth season race.

The 19-year-old Tannheimer brought the team to three to three thanks to a strong performance: “I am really satisfied. Körner has already cost the gap,” she said in the ARD: “But everything worked out great while shooting.”

In the afternoon, the wind had made the men particularly difficult to shoot. At first David Zobel shot the first round of penalty early on, then Kühn also crashed while changing with Nawrath and then completed the error round with three further penalty rounds. In the end, it was enough for the team of the new national coach Tobias Reiter for a conciliatory fourth place.

Prussia left prematurely

German number one Franziska Preuss had not caught a good weekend in the Czech Republic (15th and 13th) and had already left home after the individual races on Sunday morning to take a break before the last two stations. Her lead in the overall World Cup had melted from 92 to 36 points to the French Lou JeanMonnot.

At the end of the season, the competitions on the Pokljuka and at the Holmenkollen in Oslo will follow. Already on Thursday, Preuss is again important points. The men start the next day. In Slovenia (March 13th to 16th) and at the end of the World Cup season in Norway (21st to 23rd March) there are still five decisions in singles and one in mixed and single mixed.
