Manchester City is releasing an unusual title chaser – whose special track record is probably unparalleled worldwide.
The unusual story of Scott Carson and Manchester City has come to an end. The 39-year-old goalkeeper will leave the English top club after six years.
Carson was part of Pep Guardiola’s team for over half a decade – and only spent 108 minutes on the pitch. He hasn’t played a single game for three years.
Pep Guardiola and Scott Carson celebrated many titles together
Although he played practically no role in terms of sports, Carson leaves as a title collector. The Englishman, who incidentally won the Champions League not only with City but also with FC Liverpool, won a total of eleven trophies.
A cult hero with special statistics
Probably also because of this, he was titled a “cult hero” by the British daily newspaper The Telegraph upon his departure. Probably hardly any player on this planet has so many titles to show for after so few minutes of action.
Carson made his debut in 2021 in the Premier League against Newcastle United. At this point he had not played in the top league for ten years. In the same season he also stood between the posts in the Champions League against Sporting.
He was apparently more important off the field. Carson was considered a popular teammate in the squad packed with superstars. It is unclear whether he will continue his unusual career elsewhere.
